Meet Opal: A Libre-Inspired Fragrance with Its Own Warmth

Lavender used to mean soap. One famous perfume changed that — and Opal is our warmer, softer take on it, in seven different formats.

For decades, lavender meant soap. Then YSL's Libre came along and turned it into something bold and glamorous — lavender in an evening dress — and suddenly a whole generation fell in love with a note their grandmothers wore. Opal is our take on that idea: the same fearless lavender-meets-vanilla character, composed our way.

The notes, in plain words

The original is built on a striking contrast: crisp French lavender and Moroccan orange blossom on top, warm vanilla and musk underneath. Cool herbs meeting warm skin — that tension is the whole magic. Opal keeps that contrast at its heart: the lavender is there from the first spray, the orange blossom softens it, and the base settles into a vanilla-musk warmth that carries the rest of the day.

What it's like to wear

On our skin, Opal opens brighter than you'd expect — the lavender and orange blossom arrive together, floral but not sweet. Within the first hour the warmth rises, and from there it wears as a soft, creamy floral that feels polished rather than loud. It usually stays with us for most of the day, between six and eight hours on skin depending on your skin type, and on fabric even into the next day.

It reads feminine and put-together: mornings at work, an event, a dinner where you want to feel dressed even before you get dressed. In hot weather one spray is enough; in winter it becomes noticeably cozier.

Opal next to the original, honestly

They share a spine, not a fingerprint. The original pushes its lavender sharper and drier, almost androgynous; Opal lets the vanilla warmth in earlier, so it wears softer and a little more romantic. If the original sometimes feels like a statement, Opal is the version you reach for daily. Wear them side by side and you'll feel the family resemblance immediately — and also exactly where we chose to go our own way.

Seven ways in

Opal is one of the few scents we make in every format we offer. The eau de parfum in 15ml or 100ml is the natural place to start. The parfum oil is an alcohol-free roll-on for a quieter, closer wear, and the solid balm lives happily in a handbag. For layering, the premium body butter builds the scent into your skincare and meaningfully extends how long it lasts, with the body spray and deodorant keeping everything consistent. And the diffuser oil brings the same lavender-vanilla warmth to a room.

The easy way to decide

If you're torn between this and another scent, don't decide from an article — order Opal as a sample, wear it for a few days, and let your skin vote. And if lavender isn't your note at all, our 60-second scent quiz will steer you to a better match. U.S. shipping is free on every order.
