When we composed it, the request we kept hearing was the same: "woody, but not old-fashioned; clean, but with character." That's exactly what the original does so well, with its cardamom, iris and violet over Australian sandalwood and cedar. The resemblance is clear, but they don't wear exactly the same. The original leans drier and smokier, with that famous "pencil shavings" edge. On our skin, it opens with a peppery-spiced brightness that settles within minutes into the heart of the fragrance: smooth sandalwood wrapped in cedar, with a suede-like warmth underneath. It's less of a statement and more of an aura; people tend to lean in rather than notice from across the room.
